Dr. Ken Chang Explains How Cerec Technology Works

What Patients Say

CEREC® is an acronym meaning Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic. Our certified CEREC® machine allows our team to perform a variety of dental restoration procedures in one visit to our office, including:

  • Dental Crowns
  • Porcelain Veneers
  • Cosmetic Bonding
  • Porcelain Onlays
  • Porcelain Inlays

CEREC® restorations give your restored tooth a more natural match to the rest of your teeth, and can help preserve the healthy part of that tooth.

And better yet, CEREC® restorations do not contain any metal – which is not only safer for your mouth, but also eliminates unsightly discoloration. And, the composite materials used will even feel exactly like your other teeth!

In the past, we used a goopy material to take the impression of a patients teeth.  This process would often make our patients gag and it was also messy.  This impression was then sent to a dental lab with instructions by Dr. Chang on how to fabricate the tooth (crown, veneer etc)  The final restoration would come back from the lab 2-3 weeks later.  During this waiting period, the patient would wear temporary teeth to protect the prepared tooth surface.  The patient returned and Dr. Chang would try in the final restoration, if it fit the patient was on their way after two visits.  If for some reason, the final restoration did not fit, they often would be sent home again with temporaries and another crown was fabricated at the dental lab.

Today, digital impressions are taken of the patients tooth and these images are sent electronically to a computer where the doctor or technician at Accent on Dentistry can design your tooth inside the dental office. Once this is finished, the information is sent to a milling unit that takes a block of porcelain and mills a final crown while you wait.  This is color matched and finely tuned then tried in on your first appointment. If an adjustment is needed it is done on-the-spot and you are on your way with a final restoration.

The dental crowns are done in the same day.  If you’ve been trying to find a Cerec dentist in Anchorage, Alaska definitely give Dr. Ken Chang at Accent on Dentistry a call.  He has extensive experience with this technology and will save you valuable time.
